Reading notes, week 32

by , under books, reading notes

August 7: The Nine Tailors by Dorothy L. Sayers. It gets better on every reread. I still love all the bell-ringing and Hilary Thorpe is now on my list of literary crushes.

August 9: The A.B.C. Murders by Agatha Christie. One of the better Poirots, though I dislike the trope of giving the villain POV chapters (even though he turns out not to be the actual villain) (select to see spoiler).

August 10: Software by amairylle. Wonderful Young Wizards fic of Ponch giving Darryl the kind of advice only a dog can give.

August 11: The Second Mango by Shira Glassman. (This is probably going to be a full Mangoverse reread.) It’s clear that this is the first book in the series: the worldbuilding still has to “set” and some of the writing is not as polished as in later books, but oh! the PEOPLE! (Also the food. And the religion. It’s so good to read fantasy in which everybody is matter-of-course Jewish, with local differences too!)
